Ingredients

Dough Ingredients
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar for the dough
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons butter can substitute with plant-based alternative
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Coating Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar for coating
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon for coating
Other
  • Cooking spray

Method

Preparation
  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the water, butter, 2 tablespoons of sugar, and salt. Bring this mixture to a boil over medium heat.
  2. Once boiling, remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the flour using a wooden spoon until you achieve a smooth dough that pulls away from the sides of the pan.
  3. Let the dough cool for about 5 minutes to prevent cooking the eggs when added.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing after each addition, until your dough becomes smooth and glossy.
  5. Stir in the vanilla extract for that extra flavor.
  6. Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) while you finalize the dough.
  7. Fill a piping bag with the dough and pipe 1-inch rounds onto a piece of parchment paper.
Cooking
  1. Carefully transfer the parchment with the piped dough into the air fryer basket or lift them off with a spatula if you're not using parchment paper. Lightly spray with cooking spray.
  2. Air fry the churros for 8 to 10 minutes, or until they turn a lovely golden brown.
Coating
  1. Mix the remaining 1/2 cup of sugar with the cinnamon in a bowl.
  2. Toss the hot churro bites in the cinnamon-sugar mixture and serve warm.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature. Best consumed within a couple of days. For freezing, allow to cool completely before placing in a freezer-safe bag. Reheat in the air fryer for a few minutes to restore crispness.
